Artist Bio for Donna M. Adams

"Donna's Hope is that her work is enjoyed by those who own it and that they find meaning in it for themselves."

Donna M. Adams was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She graduated from St. Joseph High School as a Commercial Artist. Her training in advertising and design were used through a 26-year career in Real Estate. Here she designed business cards, ads for the paper, web pages, promotional materials, home decorating and computer graphics.

Over the past 30 years of painting and experimenting, Donna has learned to  work in all media and experiments with effects and textures on all surfaces large and small. She is influenced by nature, so color and light are very important in her work. Through this she has developed her own unique style. Continually taking workshops helps her to stay in focus.

She has met many great people not only in the community, but also in the art world. Their acceptance of her art work has been the inspiration behind marketing and shows. Many of her works are in private and commercial collections throughout Canada.

Donna M. Adams - Artist Statement

I'm a person who gives all to everything I do.  I try to get the depth of my paints to draw your imagination into the painting. My work is abstract and sometimes leans to landscaping and floral arrangements.

I enjoy using textures, so I continually use it in my work while experimenting with different ways to achieve the textured look I want. Since I'm an earthy color person, I am studying and work with different color mixes all the time. I will often step out of the box by using colors that are very different for me. I find this very challenging and great fun.

Acrylics are my medium of choice right now. I work with large surfaces and a lot of textures. Acrylic paint lends itself to this process. I use brushes but most of all loads of tools, towels and textured items. It's not unusual to find me with any material or tool in my hand while painting. I also use many glazes which enrich the depth and colors in the paintings. This takes the painting to a very deep and layered finish. The 3D effects show through with the glazes and color mix.

Oils are great to work with and I would like to do more, however, I do find the drying time a problem. The movement and brush stokes with oils are unique, fun to work with and easier to manipulate.

MY GOAL To keep learning and finding new and interesting techniques. This is truly a never ending career. I find it so exciting and rewarding. I paint at least 4 to 5 days a week, and would love to do more. With every painting I sell, I continue to grin as it gives me the greatest pleasure to know that my clients find the joy  in my work that I do.
